Policies
Hotel policy
Check-in and check-out times, reservation and cancellation terms, payment methods, and the house rules that apply during your stay at the Scarborough Inn.
Check-in and check-out
- Check-in is from 4 p.m. Check-out is by 11 a.m.
- The front desk is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
- Early check-in requires management approval and is subject to availability; a property-specific fee may apply.
- Late check-out requires approval and is subject to availability; a property-specific fee may apply. Otherwise, check-out remains 11 a.m.
- Arriving late? Call the inn on 252-473-3979 before 6 p.m. on the day of arrival to guarantee your reservation.
- Report visible room problems to the front desk within 15 minutes of check-in. The hotel will investigate and may correct the issue, change the room subject to availability, or review a refund request. Problems that could not reasonably be discovered immediately remain reviewable by management.
- Please return your room key to the front desk at check-out. If you cannot, please tell the front desk — a key left on the room’s desk or bed is also acceptable.
Reservations, cancellation and refunds
- A valid credit or debit card is required to make a reservation.
- Cancellation is free until 4 p.m. Eastern Time, seven calendar days before the day of arrival. Once the free cancellation period ends, the card on the reservation is automatically charged the full amount of the stay.
- If the card declines for any reason, the reservation is cancelled and the room released.
- Reservations made within seven days of arrival are charged in full and are non-refundable.
- A deposit towards your stay can be paid in advance. If the reservation is cancelled inside the free cancellation period, there is no cancellation charge and the eligible deposit is refunded.
- In a mandatory evacuation, every reservation is cancelled and refunded in full. No other weather-related cancellation is permitted once the free cancellation period has ended.
- A date change is subject to availability, and the rate of the newly requested date applies. A change of room type after booking is solely at management’s discretion.
- A no-show is charged the full amount of the stay.
- On an early check-out, the whole stay is charged. No refund is issued.
- Refunds can take 5–7 business days. Please check with your bank before calling the inn about a delay — the inn is not responsible for delays at your financial institution.
- A reservation made through a third-party booking agency can only be changed or cancelled through that agency.
- The card used to make a reservation cannot be changed.
Payment, deposits and card holds
- We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express credit cards, and all major debit cards, including PayPal.
- We accept cash for room charges and applicable taxes.
- We do not accept virtual currencies.
- A valid credit card is required at check-in for incidentals, damage and security, even when the room is paid in cash. A pre-authorisation hold may be placed on it, although some stays do not require a damage hold. If a required hold cannot be authorised, the reservation may be refused or cancelled, regardless of cash on hand. The amount varies by property and room type; call the hotel to confirm the amount for your stay. When the hotel places a hold and no charge is retained, the hotel releases it later on checkout day.
- For a reservation made through a third-party booking site, payment and hold arrangements may differ according to how the agency confirmed and processed the booking. Confirm the applicable terms with both the booking provider and the hotel.
- A security deposit may be charged. A security deposit paid in cash is returned in cash at check-out provided there is no visible incidental damage to the room. A deposit or refund processed to a card follows the card or booking provider’s processing policy, including for third-party reservations.
- Refunds of room charges are not issued in cash.
- Management reserves the right to refuse cash payment, or service, where this policy is not met in full.
Age, ID and card at check-in
- You must be at least 21 years old to reserve a room.
- A legal federal or state-issued ID is required at check-in: a driver’s licence, a valid passport or passport card, an international driver’s licence, or a military ID.
- A valid credit or debit card may be required at check-in. The card must be in the registered guest’s name and presented with a government-issued photo ID. A completed credit card authorisation form is required if the guest checking in is not the cardholder.
Pets
Pets are not allowed.
Service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act are welcome and are not treated as pets. No pet fee, pet deposit or routine cleaning fee applies, and a guest with a service animal may reserve any available room. The animal must remain under the handler’s control and may not be left alone in the room. The hotel may require an animal to be removed if it is not housebroken, or if it is out of control and the handler does not take effective action. Normal charges may apply for actual damage on the same basis as for any guest.
Smoking
All rooms are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas. Smoking-related damage or extraordinary cleaning is charged at the actual assessed restoration cost; there is no fixed fee.
Room occupancy and extra guests
- Please check a room’s maximum number of guests with the front desk when you book.
- All registered guests are permitted on the hotel premises. Rooms, amenities and other guest areas are for registered guests only.
- Anyone who wants to stay overnight must book and register for a room. They may make a walk-in reservation at the front desk when a room is available.
Pool
Scarborough Inn does not have a swimming pool.
Noise and guest conduct
- Loud music and partying on the property are not permitted, including loud music in cars parked on the property. Anyone disturbing the peace will be evicted with no refund.
- Anyone intoxicated by alcohol or drugs and causing a disturbance, inside or outside the rooms, will be evicted with no refund.
- This is a drug-free property. Offenders are evicted immediately with no refund.
- Prostitution, solicitation, photographing other guests or employees, and unwelcome advances towards them are strictly forbidden.
- Please do not damage or vandalise the furniture, mattresses, appliances, fixtures or exterior property. Guests causing damage are charged up to its assessed fair value, not exceeding $5,000. Please tell the front desk at check-in about any visible existing damage; normal wear and tear does not need to be reported.
Parking
Parking is free. When the inn is fully booked, parking is limited to one vehicle per room. Additional vehicles require front-desk approval and available space. RVs and trucks are welcome; an accessible parking space and electric-vehicle charging station are available. Unauthorised vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Accessibility
The inn has an accessible parking space. The full accessibility statement sets out what is and is not accessible, and how to ask for help.
Privacy and terms of use
How this website handles your information is set out in the privacy policy and the cookie policy. Use of the website is governed by the terms of use.
Housekeeping
Every room is serviced by housekeeping daily.
Maintenance
For a maintenance request, please call the front desk. Plungers and some basic tools are kept there. While every effort is made to have maintenance staff on site around the clock, the inn does not guarantee it.
Room photographs
Room and amenity photographs on this website and on third-party booking sites may not always match your actual room’s layout, decor or amenities. Rooms are renovated and remodelled over time, so photographs may differ from the room you are given.
Photography and filming
Commercial photography or filming on the property is not allowed unless authorised by hotel management. Please do not photograph other guests or employees without their permission.
Personal belongings
- Please avoid keeping valuables or cash in your room while you are away. The inn cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from inside a room.
- Please keep your vehicle locked, and avoid leaving items of value in plain sight — store them in your trunk or your room if possible. The inn cannot be held responsible for loss, damage or theft of your vehicle or belongings.
Smoke alarms and sprinklers
Please do not tamper with the smoke alarm in your room. If you think its batteries need replacing, tell the front desk. Please do not hang anything from the fire sprinklers.
Discounts and promotions
Discounts and promotions depend on room availability and management approval. No fixed discount or peak-season schedule is published. Call the inn to confirm whether an offer applies to your dates and reservation.
Non-discrimination
We are LGBTQ friendly and welcome everyone. We are a culturally and racially diverse hotel with employees of many backgrounds, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for racial discrimination on our property.
